Pumpkin Seed (Cucurbita pepo)
Pumpkin Seed, Cucurbita pepo in Latin, is found inside the cavity of the pumpkin's fruit. Pumpkins grow on annual vines that can become quite long, up to over fifteen feet in length. The plant produces flowers during the summer months, which eventually turn into the pumpkins. The seeds ripen inside the fruit in late summer to early fall.
There are several uses for Pumpkin Seed. The seed is dried, and then can be eaten whole, or powdered. In their powdered form, Pumpkin Seed can be used in baking breads. Pumpkin Seeds also contain oil, which is commonly used in cosmetics.
